Gavin's Christening Story | Cameron Silk Christening Gown

This is the story about a little boy with bright eyes and a sweet smile named Gavin. At three months old, he was christened wearing our Cameron Silk Christening Gown and Hat. The Cameron Gown is a true heirloom gown design which is exactly what Gavin's mom, Deborah, had in mind for her son to wear. On the day of his baptism, Deborah hired a photographer friend (something she highly suggests!) to capture the special moments throughout the day. We hope Gavin's story, along with the beautiful photos Deborah shared from the ceremony, will leave you feeling inspired.

I always knew I wanted a traditional christening gown for Gavin’s baptism. It has always been a tradition in my family and with the baptism ceremony it really is the easiest garment to wear. In the past, my aunt hand made a christening gown for myself and my sisters. It has been a family heirloom that has been passed down through generations. Now having my own family, I wanted to carry on a similar tradition. Unfortunately, my aunt passed away when I was young so having a handmade family heirloom for my little boy was not an option.

When looking online for gown options I noticed there was a huge gown selection for little girls but hardly anything when it came to little boys. I knew I wanted a gown, and I wanted something that could be kept and passed down to my grandchildren. I was searching online and stumbled across Baby Beau and Belle and fell in love with the gown options available. I also loved that the gowns were hand made as I wanted a quality gown that looked like it was made just for my boy.

I personally loved the Cameron Gown and Hat because of the hints of blue accented on both. The design was simple and stunning. It was clear the gown was designed for a little boy and would not be confused for a little girl’s gown. I fell in love the moment I saw it, and I knew I had to have it for Gavin’s big day.

Gavin was 3 months old when he was baptized. He was born in the middle of winter so we had to wait for the weather to break before we could hold his special event. I personally liked him being baptized at this age since he has such a big personality and it was really starting to show. He was more alert during the ceremony and was able to smile in his pictures.

I used the sizing chart online and decided to go with the 3-6 month size. It fit beautifully! The gown looked like it was made just for him. Even our Priest commented on the beauty of his gown and said how he wished more family’s kept with the traditional look.

We started planning Gavin’s Baptism about a month prior to his big day. Most of our family lives out of town and would have to travel for the ceremony. As we heard more and more of our family members were planning on coming we decided to host a reception at a local restaurant rather than host something at our home. We looked for a restaurant that had a good selection of food as well as a private room for about 30 people.

Once we had our location and menu, I started working on the cake, centerpieces, and party favors. I looked on Pinterest for ideas and came up with a small candy buffet for each table and personalized candy bars as party favors. We ordered our cake from a local vendor. It was a two tier cake with a cross and baptism shoes – simple and delicious.

We were very fortunate the catering director at the restaurant was willing to help with every detail. Because of her the whole day was very simple. We simply dropped off the centerpieces, cake and party favors at the restaurant prior to the event and the staff set up everything and decorated the room. It was better than I could have ever imagined.

We also hired a friend to photograph the event. I would highly recommend it! It was such a relief to be able to celebrate the day and not worry about getting good pictures. The pictures captured the day beautifully.

My biggest piece of advice, if you are planning a big event, is to work with people and places that will make your day easier. Planning a baptism is very similar to planning a wedding (just on a much smaller less expensive scale). In the end, the less you have to physically do the more time you will have to relax and enjoy the day.
